Does anyone take Pat Robertson seriously anymore?
Tragedy often brings out the best… and worst in people, yesterday while most of us were scrambling to find ways to help the Haitian people Rev. Pat Robertson was on The 700 Club saying the following:
Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French . . . and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, “We will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French.” True story. And so the devil said, “OK, it’s a deal.” . . . Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another, desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island. It’s cut down the middle. On the one side is Haiti; on the other side is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is, is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, et cetera. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island.
I’d almost be willing to cut him a little slack or buy the spin from CBN spokesman Chris Roslan if it wasn’t from Rev. Robertson’s long history of monumentally stupid remarks… It seems like anytime there is a human tragedy Rev. Roberson is there to blame or at least to explain to the victims why they deserved it. He did it after 9/11, after hurricane Katrina and even after Ariel Sharon’s stroke.
Simply put Pat Robertson is a crank who should be consigned to rubbish heap of history, he doesn’t speak for me or any Christian I know.
