I probably shouldn’t post this today, it’s pretty depressing…
Ouch, I’m not sure what this bit from the Tonight Show really says about the American educational system, but it’s painfully embarrassing. There’s simply no excuse for an American citizen not knowing basic American history, the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, The Federalist Papers, The Anti-Federalist Papers and James Madison’s notes on the Constitutional debates should all be required reading in schools.
If you can’t answer basic questions like the ones asked here I’d suggest picking up a history book… Two of my favorites are:
- A History of the United States and Its People by Edward Eggleston
- American Heritage: A Reader by The Hillsdale College History Faculty
