I haven’t been paying close attention to politics recently so I was a little surprised when an old post about Florida Congressman Alan Grayson started receiving a lot views recently. It got me wondering what he’d done now…
What he’s done is completely jumped the credibility shark.
Rep. Grayson has always been a bombastic idiot prone to toxic hyperbole, but he’s completely outdone himself this time:
Florida Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson’s campaign sent out a fundraising email likening the tea party to the Ku Klux Klan, complete with an image of a burning cross.
The email, which went out to supporters yesterday, shows a burning cross — complete with images of two KKK-like figures in the background — used as the “T” in “tea party.” When users click on the image, they’re taken to a fundraising landing page for Grayson’s campaign.
I would love to say I’m shocked, unfortunately I’m not. We’ve endured years of this sort of painfully toxic rhetoric from Rep. Grayson and from democrats in general. Democrats have been trying to divide us along racial, gender and cultural lines for years, it’s their standard playbook… anyone who opposes their policies is immediately branded a racist, sexist, homophobe or whatever other pejorative they decide to brand their opponents with.
The sad truth is all Rep. Grayson has done here is demonstrate his ignorance of history. The KKK was founded by Southern Democrats. It’s democrats, not Republicans who have voted against every critical piece of civil rights legislation since 1866.
I suppose we could take solace in the the fact that DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is “disappointed” in Rep. Grayson’s “use of that imagery” and that other Democrats are distancing themselves from him.
Update (October 26, 20013): Rep. Alan Grayson is doubling down on the crazy:
This might come as a surprised to anyone familiar with Martin Bashir‘s usual rhetoric. On Friday afternoon, the MSNBC host tore into Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) for his “inflammatory” fundraising email that compared the Ku Klux Klan to the tea party movement. The congressman continued his defense of the email in spite of outspoken liberal Bashir’s protests.
Bashir began by noting that he has “some sympathy” for Grayson’s analysis, citing how “over the last five years, we have witnessed plenty of instances of racial hatred toward the president — whether it’s the revoting Rush Limbaugh, the imbecile Sarah Palin, or tea party supporters spewing their hate at various rallies.” However, he asked, “How can you possibly compare racist epithets with racist actions of the KKK, which actually led to racist murders?”
Wow, Martin Bashir is no friend of Republicans or the Tea Party movement, nor is he shy about airing his own inflammatory rhetoric, so if he’s calling Rep. Grayson out for his we know its way over the top.
In short Rep. Grayson seems to argue that it you don’t agree with his comparison the Tea Party movement to the KKK, then you are a racist and a co-conspirator.
Unhinged, is about the word I can think of to describe Rep Grayson, the man is bat crap crazy. One hopes the voters of Florida’s 9th Congressional district, will follow the lead of voters in Rep. Grayson’s former district and fire him in 2014.
