I’ve been thinking about this quote from our 26th President Teddy Roosevelt a lot recently:
“Americanism means the virtues of courage, honor, justice, truth, sincerity, and hardihood—the virtues that made America. The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living and the get-rich-quick theory of life.”
It seems to capture our current political & cultural divides rather eloquently… while conservatives value & respect traditional American virtues much of the modern left views those same customs, habits, culture, and thinking as archaic impediments to their agenda. We must become more involved in our communities & making sure voices our heard at the local, state & federal level… In short, we must do politics in a way that preserves our ability to live out our values. Because if we don’t, we’re going to wake up one morning and discover that the freedoms we so cherish are gone.
